The Audience Award of BAFF 2010 was presented in the BAFF Anime section and went to the film One Pice: Strong World of Munehisa Sakai (Japan, 2009). The expectations that it had awakened fulfilling its European première, the tenth film of the series One Piece that sold out the three ptrojections programmed in the festival and was a huge success among the supporters of animation cinema. In second place in the preferences of the public the film Summer Wars of Mamoru Hosoda (Japan, 2009), an anime with an adult plot and homage to Miyazaki and Ozu and the visual universe of Takashi Murakami. In third place the film Mother de Bong Jong-ho (South Korea, 2009).

El jurado del BAFF 2010 – 12 FESTIVAL DE CINE ASIÁTICO DE BARCELONA ha decidido que el Durián de Oro del BAFF 2010, otorgado por cortesía de Casa Asia y dotado con 6.000 euros, sea para Au Revoir Taipei (Yiya Taibei) dirigida por Arvin Chen (Taiwán/EEUU, 2010). Se ha concedido así mismo una mención especial a At the End of Daybreak (Sham Moh) de Ho Yuhang (Malasia/Hong Kong/Corea del Sur, 2009). El Premio NETPAC que concede la organización del mismo nombre ha sido entregado a la película Between Two Worlds (Asahin Wetei) de Vimukthi Jayasundara (Sri Lanka/Francia, 2009). El Premio a la Distribución, otorgado por la distribuidora Motion Pictures, en colaboración con Tribanda, que adquirirán los derechos de la película galardonada con este premio para su estreno comercial en España, ha ido a la parar a la película de Johnnie To, Vengeance (Fuk Sao) (Hong Kong/Francia, 2009), protagonizada por los actores franceses Johnny Hallyday y Sylvie Testud. Finalmente, el jurado del D-Cinema del BAFF 2010 ha decidido otorgar el premio a la mejor película realizada en formato digital a Children Metal Divers (Bakal Boys) del director filipino Ralston Jover (Filipinas, 2009). El jurado también ha decidido destacar y conceder una mención especial a la película coreana I am in trouble! (Nanneu Gonkyeonge Cheohaetda!) del director So Sang Ming (Corea del Sur, 2009), que debuta con este filme después de dirigir diversas obras en formato corto.

Some directors have come to the BAFF to present their films and to know the reactions of first hand in front of their works. You still have opportunity to see them arpound! They are a Gerry Ballasta (The Mountain Thief), Daishi Matsunaga (Pyuupiru), Ham Kyong-rock (Elbowroom), Sherman Ong (Flooding in the Time of Droudgt) Takuya Fukushima (Our Brief Eternity) and So Sang-Ming (I'm in Trouble!).

Good news for fans of anime! Due to the fast sold out of the two projections of the film ONE PIECE: STRONG WORLD, we have programmed a third projection for Sunday 2 May at 16:00 in the auditorium of CCCB. Tickets are already available at box office and online. Therefore SWORD OF STRANGER, initially programmed in that time, is cancelled.

This year the BAFF gives new entity to the section devoted to the animation and under the name of BAFF Anime devotes an exclusive space to this festival in the festival, which in next years will win in presence. This year, a small selection of the recent production of Japanese animation with three absolute premières in Spain: Redline (directed by Katshuhito Ishii with Takeshi Koike); the box-office film of the year in Japan, One Piece Film: Strong World (directed by Munehisa Sakai with supervision of script by the creator of the series Eiichiro Oda); and Eureka Seven Movie 2009 of Tomoki Kyoda. Moreover the BAFF will present one of the best films of animation of the last times, Summer Wars de Mamoru Hosoda, that won the prize tothe best feature film of the section Anima't in Sitges 2009.

The twelfth edition of the BAFF – BARCELONA ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL will be taking place in Barcelona this year from April 30th and May 9th. The new edition of the festival will be presenting a selection offering an increased number of film screenings –up to a total of 70 and six short film programs-, reinforcing some of its sections and giving a special boost to animation.

Thirteen films from Japan, Korea, China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam will be competing in the Official Selection. This year there are essential movies in this section from amongst the best in present-day Asian creation, including Paju by director Park Chan-ok; Weaving Girl by promising Chinese director Wang Quanan; the new film from master Hong Sang-soo, Like You Know It All or the second to last work by Adolfo Alix, Aurora, a festival regular whose presence will be double this year with Manila, co-directed by Raya Martin.

This year’s AS (Asian Selection) section is marked by big names in Asian cinema: Bong Joon-ho will be presenting Mother, his new film along the same lines as his famous Memories of Murder; Johnnie To will be bringing us his latest work, Vengeance, starring French actor and actress Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Testud, a veritable polar meets Hong Kong; and Tsai Ming-liang – one of the few Asian directors who has enjoyed the favor of commercial distribution in Spain- will be bringing us his latest delight, Visage, where the Taiwanees director’s discourse merges once and for all with that of his admired masters of nouvelle vague. But there are other important films this year that are not to be forgotten, like the Korean action movie Running Turtle by Lee Yeon-Woo or the directing debut of critic Jung Sun-il, Café Noir.
